Visayan Electric announces rate reduction for September, welcomes rate intervention measures from the ERC
Updated: Sep 28

CEBU CITY, Philippines – September 28, 2026 — Residential customers of Visayan Electric with an average monthly consumption of 200 kWh will see a ₱0.07 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) reduction in their September electricity rates, bringing the overall rate down from last month’s ₱14.96/kWh to ₱14.89/kWh.
The rate reduction follows the ERC’s revised secondary price cap across Visayas and Mindanao, alongside Visayan Electric’s (VECO) negotiations with the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP) to defer charges. These measures protected consumers from severe rate spikes, which would have otherwise reached ₱21.24 per kWh for residential customers. Under updated ERC guidelines, regional price caps provide Visayas consumers immediate relief during supply deficiencies, even when prices elsewhere stay stable.
“We warmly welcome the ERC’s regional price safeguards, which provide crucial financial breathing room for the families and small businesses we serve," said Mark Anthony Kindica, President and General Manager of Visayan Electric. "We hear our customers' concerns, and we are working tirelessly alongside power generators and regulators to secure the most reasonable energy prices possible for Metro Cebu."
To further safeguard power stability and fair pricing in the province, Visayan Electric maintains close coordination with the ERC, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), IEMOP, local government units, and energy stakeholders. The company is also actively expanding its Interruptible Load Program (ILP), encouraging commercial and industrial partners to voluntarily offload from the grid during peak hours.
Earlier this month, Cebu Governor Pam Baricuatro announced an Energy Summit to tackle regional power challenges, an initiative warmly welcomed and fully supported by Visayan Electric.
"We strongly support Governor Pam Baricuatro’s call for an Energy Summit this October," Kindica emphasized. "Working side-by-side with government leaders and energy partners allows us to directly address local supply challenges and push for consumer-first energy policies that put Cebuano families and businesses at the center."
