Visayan Electric Champions Environmental Sustainability, Plants 3,000 Trees to Protect Cebu’s Watershed Communities

FOR A GREENER TOMORROW: Volunteers from Visayan Electric and AboitizPower gather on the mountain slopes of Sapangdaku, Cebu City, for the utility's 2026 annual tree planting drive.
Marking another year of dedicated environmental stewardship, Visayan Electric recently conducted its annual tree-planting activity in Barangay Sapangdaku, Cebu City, reinforcing its long-term commitment to securing a greener, safer, and more sustainable future for the communities it serves.
On September 26, 2026, more than 50 employee-volunteers from Visayan Electric and AboitizPower teamed up with the Baksan-Sapangdaku Farmers Association and the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) to plant over 3,000 seedlings along the mountain slopes of Sapangdaku.
Executed in partnership with the Aboitiz Foundation, the initiative forms a key component of the Cebu A-Park Project—an Aboitiz Group program launched in 2019 that targets the rehabilitation and protection of 150 hectares surrounding the vital Buhisan Watershed Forest Reserve. Since its inception, the project has successfully planted over 200,000 trees, maintaining an impressive 80 percent survival rate.
This year, to guarantee high sapling survival rates and maximize the long-term impact of its reforestation drives, Visayan Electric has partnered with the Baksan-Sapangdaku Farmers Association to tend, monitor, and protect the newly planted trees. Not only this ensures higher survival rate for the trees, but also provides additional income streams for local families, proving that environmental protection and community development go hand in hand.
By investing in the people who know the land best, Visayan Electric ensures that its watershed rehabilitation efforts deliver lasting benefits, safeguarding Cebu’s natural water resources while actively uplifting the consumers and communities it serves.
The recently concluded tree planting activity is just one Visayan Electric’s major corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed toward environmental preservation. Last June, the utility also planted more than 1000 mangrove seedlings along the coast of Brgy. Jagobiao in Mandaue City.
