Emergency preparedness is not something to be taken lightly. Emergencies can happen anytime and anywhere—whether we are ready or not. At Visayan Electric, preparedness is a core value embedded in its operations. Its employees, both in the field and behind the scenes, are trained to respond promptly to ensure uninterrupted service in times of crisis. This culture of readiness is something the company strives to extend beyond its workforce and into the community.

On March 22, Visayan Electric’s Kaibigan Batch 2, in partnership with the VECO Employees Multipurpose Cooperative (VEMCO), hit two birds with one stone by promoting emergency preparedness while advocating for women empowerment in Barangay Mabolo.

In coordination with the local Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), Visayan Electric volunteers launched HERoes First: Women Leading Safety, a project aimed at improving emergency preparedness in the community, while highlighting the vital role of women in promoting safety and resilience.

As part of the initiative, fire extinguishers and first aid kits were donated to the barangay, with assistance from the local SK council. The project also enabled the local government, particularly the SK, to reallocate funds originally intended for emergency preparedness efforts toward activities celebrating women empowerment—without compromising community safety.

As part of its women celebration, the volunteers also participated in a Zumba exercise led by the Women of Barangay Mabolo. This highlights the important, but often overlooked, role of health in keeping the community safe and prepared from any emergencies.

This project underscores Visayan Electric’s commitment to empowering communities by equipping them with the necessary knowledge, skills, and tools to stay safe in times of emergencies.
