Visayan Electric, in partnership with the Aboitiz Foundation, turns over newly rewired electrical systems of 7 public schools within its franchise area. The schools are this year’s beneficiaries of the company’s Schools Rewiring Project, a key initiative under its corporate social responsibility aimed at ensuring a safer and more conducive learning environment for students.
Included in the list of this year’s beneficiaries are: Maghaway Elementary School and Iba Elementary School in Talisay City; Vito National High School in Minglanilla; Liburon Elementary School in San Fernando; Tabla Elementary School in Liloan; Jaguimit Elementary School and Antonio R. Lapiz Elementary School in the City of Naga.
During the turnover ceremony, Department of Education (DepEd) Region 7 Director Dr. Salustiano Jimenez, expressed his gratitude to Visayan Electric and Aboitiz Foundation for helping them provide quality education to Cebuano students. “Quality education cannot be achieved by merely teaching, but also making sure school facilities are in top condition,” he said. “Thanks to Visayan Electric and Aboitiz Foundation, schools are safer and we at DepEd 7 can all sleep soundly at night,” he continued.
Visayan Electric President and COO Engr. Raul Lucero also thanked DepEd and the company’s foundation partner, Aboitiz Foundation, for continually partnering and supporting the Schools Rewiring Project, which reinforces the company’s commitment to providing a safe and conducive environment for the learners. “We in Visayan Electric believe that every student deserves the best possible environment to learn and grow, and we are committed to making that a reality,” he said.
Since its launch in 2010, the Schools Rewiring Project has successfully upgraded the electrical wiring in 153 public schools, impacting 5,458 classrooms across Cebu, with a total investment exceeding PhP 98 million. This significant initiative was recently honored at the League of Corporate Foundations’ Guild Awards, held at Dusit Thani on July 3, 2024, where it was named one of the top three finalists for Best CSR Project in Education.
The Schools Rewiring Project is just one of Visayan Electric’s many corporate social responsibility initiatives within the education sector. The company is also actively involved in initiatives that focus on environmental sustainability and enterprise development.
