Visayan Electric Boosts Workplace Safety with Bi-Annual Fire Drill

In compliance with Republic Act 9514, also known as the Fire Code of the Philippines of 2008, Visayan Electric successfully conducted its first bi-annual fire safety seminar and drill on April 17.
The exercise was held in close partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection Region 7 (BFP).
This initiative is a key component of the company’s ongoing commitment to fostering a robust safety culture and ensuring all employees are well-prepared for emergencies.
"Conducting regular fire drills is more than just a legal requirement under the Fire Code; it is vital for testing our emergency preparedness and ensuring our systems are fully functional. These exercises allow us to familiarize our team with evacuation routes, improve coordination, and identify critical gaps before a real emergency occurs," said Engr. Benje Retuertas, Safety, Health, Environment & Security (SHES) Manager of Visayan Electric.
"By building a disciplined culture of safety awareness, we empower our employees with the skills to act safely and confidently, ensuring a resilient workplace for everyone," Retuertas added.
Beyond basic preparedness, the activity served a dual purpose:
Employee Empowerment: It equipped the workforce with essential survival skills for fire emergencies.
Operational Readiness: It provided a platform for the company’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) to showcase their specialized training and technical proficiency in action.
