Visayan Electric, in partnership with the Vivant Foundation, has officially turned over a newly retrofitted Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) Laboratory to the Ramon Duterte Memorial National High School in Barangay Guadalupe.
The initiative is a key component of Vivant Foundation’s Project Liadlaw, an EIM assistance program originally designed to provide solar equipment to off-grid and remote schools.
This year, the foundation expanded the project’s scope by partnering with Visayan Electric, the Department of Education (DepEd), and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). Beyond hardware, the collaboration introduced an upgraded EIM curriculum that directly incorporates solar technology.
Designed for long-term sustainability, the EIM-Solar curriculum allows students to perform basic maintenance and repairs on the school’s solar energy installations under faculty supervision. This provides learners with vital hands-on experience in renewable energy.
During the turnover ceremony on February 2, Visayan Electric OIC-President and General Manager Mark Kindica emphasized the value of practical tools in modern education.
“We believe that education is the foundation of community development. By upgrading the EIM track with solar technology, we aren't just giving students a diploma; we are giving them a competitive advantage in today’s job market,” Kindica said.
In addition to the retrofitted laboratory, the school received specialized EIM and solar equipment.
The project underscores Visayan Electric’s ongoing commitment to investing in education and fostering better career opportunities for Cebuano students.
